Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani marked the 26th anniversary of the Trepça miners’ protest against the erasure of national identity.
On February 20, 1989, the powerful voice of Albanian resistance echoed in the Trepça mine. With an indomitable spirit, the miners began a hunger strike that shook the foundations of injustice.
Eight days underground, they did not demand wealth for themselves, but the constitutional rights of Kosovo. They protested, challenging a regime that sought to erase our national identity.
Their strike was not just a union act but an outburst of national consciousness.
A tribute and everlasting remembrance for the miners, who were and remain the torchbearers of freedom, witnesses of courage, and our national pride.
