U.S. President Donald Trump stated today that Ukraine has “no cards in hand” for potential negotiations to end the conflict with Russia.
“I had very good talks with (Russian President Vladimir) Putin, and not so good talks with Ukraine. They have no cards in hand, but they are playing hard,” Trump said from the White House. He added, “We will not allow this to continue.”
Trump has repeatedly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him a “dictator without elections” and claimed on Wednesday that the Russians had taken “a lot of territory in Ukraine,” thus “the cards are in their hands.”
In an interview with Fox Radio, Trump mentioned that he did not think it was “very important” for Zelensky to participate in negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“He’s been in meetings for three years and nothing has been done. Therefore, I don’t think it’s very important for him to participate in those meetings,” Trump added.
Trump also commented on U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besent’s visit to Ukraine for a mineral agreement, calling it a “wasted trip” and stating that it was a dangerous journey that he didn’t approve of.
