Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Wednesday that he hopes an initial agreement with the United States will lead to “other agreements,” but he also confirmed that no security guarantees from America have been agreed upon at this stage, BBC reported.
Zelensky mentioned that if he visits the United States on Friday, he will be “very direct” in asking America whether it will continue supporting Ukraine or not.
When BBC asked Zelensky if he would withdraw from the agreement if Trump does not offer security guarantees, he responded by saying, “If we do not have security guarantees, we will have no ceasefire, nothing will work, nothing.”
Success of the Mineral Agreement Depends on Trump, Says Zelensky
During a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the success of the mineral agreement largely depends on U.S. President Donald Trump, BBC writes.
“The success will depend on the conversation with President Trump,” Zelensky stated.
He said the initial agreement on minerals “is just a start, a framework, and could be a great success.”
The United States has been a key supporter of Ukraine under the previous administration of Joe Biden. However, with Trump’s return to power, he has suggested a complete reevaluation of U.S. assistance worldwide.
