An indictment has been raised for the demolition of the shelter at the Novi Sad Railway Station

The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade has raised an indictment for the negligence that led to the demolition of a shelter at the Novi Sad Railway Station.

In this incident, which occurred on November 1st of last year, 15 people lost their lives.

The indictment was filed against the investment development manager at the company “Serbian Railway Infrastructure,” Slobodanka K., the chairman of the Technical Inspection Commission at the Novi Sad Railway Station, Millutin S., and a member of this commission, Biljana K.

“The indictment was raised regarding criminal acts with corrupt elements, which resulted in the demolition of the shelter,” said Nenad Stefanović, the chief prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office.

He stated that there are reasonable suspicions that their negligence is linked to the cause of the tragedy.

Since the incident occurred, students in Serbia have organized protests and mass blockades in several cities across the country, demanding criminal and political accountability for the case, according to REL.

The Prime Minister of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, has resigned, as well as the mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić.
