The First Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade has launched an investigation following a loud, unexpected noise during a student protest on March 15, 2025, which led to panic among the crowd. The 15-minute silence segment of the protest was interrupted by the sound, causing citizens on Kralja Milana Street to panic, run, push each other, and fall.

In response, the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia has been ordered to determine the cause of the disturbance, including whether pyrotechnics, weapons, or any other dangerous materials were involved that could have endangered the lives of the protesters. The investigation will also verify if any injuries occurred during the incident, and if so, details of the injuries will be gathered through medical documentation.

The prosecutor’s office stated that after establishing the facts, they would decide whether the actions of those responsible could be classified as causing a general danger under Article 278 of the Criminal Code or if any other offenses were committed.

Additionally, the police have been instructed to confirm reports of individuals contacting the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights Citizens’ Association with complaints related to the event. The investigation will also involve gathering details from those who may have witnessed or been injured during the protest.
