A fire broke out at a substation west of London, leading to a power outage that left Heathrow Airport without electricity.
This means that Heathrow – the largest airport in the UK – will remain closed until midnight Friday, likely affecting hundreds of flights and thousands of passengers.
US-based airline United Airlines told the BBC that “after the closure, seven United flights were either returned to their origin or diverted to other airports.”
“Friday flights to London Heathrow are being canceled,” added a spokesperson, as reported by Sinjali.
They also said that the airline is working with its customers to provide alternative travel options.
