The United Nations Security Council (UNSC), at Slovenia’s initiative, has adopted a statement calling for political dialogue and reaffirming the importance of respecting the Dayton Peace Agreement and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) constitutional laws.

Expressing deep concern over recent developments in BiH, the UNSC called on political representatives from the two entities in BiH and the three constituent peoples, as well as others, to engage in sincere, open, and constructive dialogue aimed at preserving the unity and political stability of the country, as reported by BHRT.

In a joint statement, UNSC members emphasized the need for resolving disputes by consensus and avoiding confrontations to maintain peace and stability.

“The UNSC members again confirmed their full support for the implementation of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its annexes,” the statement read, urging all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from provocative, divisive rhetoric and actions.

Support was also expressed for the EUFOR “Althea” mission operating in line with its mandate.

The Security Council, as highlighted, remains unequivocally committed to BiH’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity, in full accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement.
