Acting Minister for Labour, Family and the Values of the Liberation War, Andin Hoti, said that DNA analyses of the human remains discovered in suspected mass graves could take at least six months to complete, as the samples are sent to a laboratory in The Hague, Netherlands.
Hoti said he remains cautious when making statements about such sensitive cases, as he understands the emotions and suffering of the families of missing persons.
“Because they do not know, and they are not obliged to know, that the DNA comparison procedure alone takes a minimum of six months, as the samples are transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine and then sent to The Hague,” Hoti said in an interview with T7.
He emphasized that the identification process requires time and forensic procedures, as authorities must ensure accurate confirmation of the identities of the victims discovered during the ongoing investigations into suspected mass graves.
