Vjosa Osmani, the President of Kosovo, commemorated the Polaci and Qabiqi Massacres, highlighting the importance of remembering the past and protecting the truth. Reflecting on these tragic events, Osmani stated that these massacres are not just painful memories but integral parts of Kosovo’s history. The President emphasized that the sacrifices of the martyrs and fallen soldiers must never be forgotten and that Kosovo remains committed to justice.
In April 1999, Polaci and surrounding villages were subjected to one of the most brutal offensives by the genocidal Serbian regime. Over the course of one week, 78 Albanian civilians—men, women, and children—were killed. Osmani also honored the 8 martyrs of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), who gave their lives for freedom. On April 7, 1999, the Serbian forces attacked Qabiqi, where 10 more civilians were executed, further demonstrating the scale of terror imposed on the Albanian population at the time.
