A bacteria found in white meat in Albania has also raised alarms in Kosovo. This concerns the salmonella found in the “Copacol” white meat brand in the neighboring country.

As a result, strict controls were immediately initiated by the Kosovo Agency of Food and Veterinary (AUV) for meat imported from Brazil. However, today the agency confirmed that the white chicken meat sold in Kosovo is safe for consumption and meets the required criteria for trading.

According to the AUV announcement, “All the results from the analyses confirm that the white chicken meat sold in Kosovo is safe. After the raised doubts about the chicken meat originating from Brazil, which tested positive in Albania, the Kosovo Agency of Food and Veterinary took immediate actions to eliminate any doubts for Kosovo consumers by implementing additional control measures and collecting samples. Sale restrictions were imposed until confirmation through laboratory analysis results. Today, the results were issued, confirming that the meat being sold and imported is safe for consumption and meets the legal criteria for trading.”

The announcement also stated that the chicken meat samples (breast filets) originating from Brazil were tested for the presence of Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Enteritidis. The tests were conducted using the advanced ANSR method, which amplifies the DNA of Salmonella spp., and confirmed using the classical method based on ISO 6579-1. All results were within the limits set by the regulations for microbiological criteria in food products.

The agency emphasized that it will continue to act in compliance with the current legislation to ensure food safety and eliminate any doubts about the safety of products.
