Kosovo’s Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti continued his criticism of the European Union during his stay in Brussels. Speaking at a conference organized by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies, titled “A New Joint Chapter for EU Enlargement,” Kurti emphasized the risks of delayed decision-making regarding Kosovo’s EU membership application.

Kurti pointed out that Kosovo’s application has been stalled for more than 27 months despite the country’s commitment to reforms and its continued engagement with the EU. He stated that this prolonged delay is a reflection of a merit-based approach, which in turn undermines trust in the EU enlargement process.

“Keeping Kosovo’s EU application in limbo for over two years, despite the substantial reforms we’ve implemented, does not reflect a merit-based approach. This situation jeopardizes the credibility of the entire process,” Kurti stressed during the conference.

However, Kurti acknowledged that he has seen a more favorable attitude from the new European Commission, expressing greater willingness, will, and interest in integrating the Western Balkans into the EU.

The conference was part of the Willy Brandt Program for EU Enlargement, organized by the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament.
