Kosovo is actively participating in the regional exercise “FloodNorthAlb,” taking place in Shkodra, Albania, from April 7 to 11, 2025.

The “FloodNorthAlb” exercise aims to strengthen cooperation and coordination between civil protection agencies in the event of floods. It involves real-life emergency simulations, activation of operational field teams, and engagement with the European Civil Protection Mechanism.

According to Kosovo’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA), participants from Kosovo include members of the EMA and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“Kosovo’s participation is based on an interstate agreement for mutual assistance during natural and other disasters, supported by the Emergency Management Agency,” the statement reads.

The Republic of Kosovo is represented by the EMA’s Surface Water Search and Rescue Operational Team, which consists of 17 trained and equipped members ready to intervene in flood emergencies.

Civil protection agencies from Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Italy are also participating. Additionally, several other regional and European countries are attending as observers.

The exercise is being closely monitored by senior officials and agency heads from the participating countries. Kosovo’s involvement in “FloodNorthAlb” underscores its commitment to being an active and contributing member of regional and European disaster response mechanisms.

Genc Metaj, Executive Director of Kosovo’s Emergency Management Agency, praised the professionalism of Kosovo’s team and highlighted the strategic importance of participating in such exercises to enhance operational capacities and exchange experiences with partner countries.
