Nenad Rašić, leader of the Party for Freedom, Justice and Survival (PLDM) and acting Minister for Communities and Return, officially registered today as a future member of the new Kosovo Assembly.
Speaking to the media after completing his registration, Rašić confirmed he will attend tomorrow’s constitutive session of the ninth legislature and will vote for the election of the Assembly Speaker.
“We will participate normally. If there is a reasonable proposal for Speaker, we will vote for it. Vetëvendosje has the right to propose the Speaker, so I don’t see any issues in that regard,” Rašić stated.
However, he expressed doubts about the government’s formation, emphasizing that securing the necessary votes is not his responsibility. “The political party that secured half of the seats allocated to Albanians is naturally the address for forming institutions,” he said.
Rašić was clear that he is not optimistic about the government being elected tomorrow, warning that a short political deadlock could occur. “It’s a long process. It wouldn’t be the first time—we saw a similar situation in 2014 that took two to three months to resolve,” he recalled.
He stressed that the best outcome would be for Vetëvendosje, as the largest party, to form the government. “Any other option would complicate the process of democratization, governance, and Kosovo’s path toward the EU,” Rašić added.
Commenting on the ongoing pressure against Kosovo Serbs, Rašić said political intimidation has been present since 2013. “It’s nothing new. We know it happens, and it continues against the politics I represent and my associates. You saw the recent rally in Serbia—all those who went from Kosovo were under pressure,” he said.
