The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, spoke on the “Rubikon” show about the latest recognition Kosovo received this Saturday from the state of Sudan.
Osmani said the Presidency has been in continuous communication with Sudan for years and credited Turkey for supporting the process.
“With the state of Sudan, we’ve been in contact for years, and everything has been done with the great support of the Turkish state — I want to make that clear from the beginning. It’s an extremely important country which, despite going through major challenges, is one we’ve maintained consistent communication with. In recent days, this communication has become much more intensive,” said Osmani.
President Osmani added that during her meeting with her Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, they discussed a concrete plan to increase the number of countries recognizing Kosovo’s independence. She emphasized that these recognitions directly improve the lives of Kosovo’s citizens.
“He (Erdoğan), as the leader of Turkey — both as Prime Minister and now as President — has strongly supported this process. Now we have a more concrete and intensive plan, through which I believe we can quickly increase the number of recognitions for Kosovo. For us, this has never been just a matter of bilateral recognition — it directly affects the quality of life for our citizens. The more recognitions we have, the more we can join international organizations that deal with human rights, healthcare, the rule of law, and more. The citizens benefit the most as the quality of all these areas improves,” Osmani stated.
Osmani expressed optimism that Kosovo’s recognition process is gaining new momentum.
“First with the recognition from Kenya, and now with Sudan, this process has been given a new push — naturally with the support of our allies, with whom I, as president, work closely. I am confident this process will continue with the right energy in the coming days, months, and years.”
