The continuation of the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo has been scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) at 12:00, according to an official statement released by the Parliament.

This comes after Tuesday’s session failed to verify the mandates of MPs elected in the February 9 elections, resulting in the session being suspended. The opposition voted against verification, claiming that outgoing Prime Minister Albin Kurti and several ministers were attempting to assume MP roles without first resigning from the executive.

Government officials, however, clarified that those in office are considered effectively resigned once their parliamentary mandates begin, and Kurti himself reportedly sent a formal resignation confirmation to the outgoing Speaker of Parliament.

Following the disruption, acting Speaker Avni Dehari reached out to President Vjosa Osmani for guidance. In her response today, Osmani reminded the acting Speaker that constitutional procedures require the session to resume within 48 hours of its interruption.

“I urge you to resume the constitutive session in accordance with your legal authority, the Constitution, the Assembly’s Rules of Procedure, and applicable legislation,” Osmani stated in her letter.

The current situation highlights ongoing political tensions as Kosovo attempts to form a new government. The Ninth Legislature became effective as of April 8, 2025, and is under pressure to move forward with the verification of mandates and election of parliamentary leadership.
