Thousands of Americans took to the streets today in New York and several major cities for a second wave of nationwide protests against President Donald Trump, just two weeks after the first mass demonstrations.

Protesters held signs reading “No King in America” and “Resist Tyranny,” with some placards displaying Trump’s face altered to include a Hitler-style mustache — a stark critique of what they see as authoritarian tendencies.

A major point of outrage is the Trump administration’s anti-immigration policy, especially following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to suspend deportations under the 1798 “Alien Enemies Act.”

“Immigrants are welcome here!” chanted demonstrators gathered near New York City’s main public library, not far from the iconic Trump Tower.

In Washington, D.C., protesters also rallied outside the White House, though in smaller numbers than the April 5 demonstrations, which had drawn tens of thousands.

Protests were also reported outside Tesla stores, a symbolic move targeting Elon Musk, whom Trump has tasked with slashing the size of the federal government.

The protests were organized by the 50501 Movement, a decentralized activist network whose name stands for “50 protests in 50 states for 1 movement”, aimed at countering Trump’s policies.

According to their website, the group calls itself a “rapid, decentralized response to the anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration and its plutocratic allies.”

Around 400 demonstrations were expected to take place across the country throughout the day.

However, accurate crowd sizes remain unclear, as many local police departments have refused to release estimates, reports Agence France-Presse.
