The number of people injured in the recent earthquake in Turkey has reached 151.

According to the Istanbul Governor’s Office, the injuries occurred after individuals jumped from heights due to panic caused by the tremors.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), it was stated that no fatalities have been reported, and no residential buildings have collapsed.

However, one abandoned building in Istanbul’s Fatih district did collapse.

Electricity and gas supplies, as well as drinking water and sewage infrastructure, remain unaffected, the statement added.

Schools in Istanbul will be closed on Thursday and Friday, announced Minister of Education Yusuf Tekin.

He noted that no serious incidents have been reported in any of the city’s schools and that schoolyards will be open to the public to serve as safe spaces.

A total of 51 aftershocks were recorded following the powerful 6.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Istanbul earlier, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

The strongest aftershock was measured at magnitude 5.9, he said.

Yerlikaya added that the 6.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded about seven kilometers below the surface and lasted 13 seconds.
