Additional human remains were discovered on Sunday at the excavation site in the village of Kalludër, in the municipality of Zubin Potok, where authorities are investigating a suspected mass grave.
The announcement was made by acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti following his visit to the site on Saturday.
Kurti said the excavation and exhumation process will continue for an extended period.
“It is painful, heartbreaking, and difficult to witness how, 27 years after the end of the war, the truths that some tried to silence and erase are now coming to light. While we were at the site, additional human bones were uncovered as the excavation and exhumation work continues,” Kurti said.
He added that Kosovo’s institutions and members of the EULEX mission carrying out the operation have the full support of the government.
“These excavations will continue for many weeks and, most likely, for many months, as the human remains are scattered,” Kurti stated.
The suspected mass grave site was identified following the arrest of two individuals on Tuesday on suspicion of committing war crimes.
Police also conducted a search of one suspect’s residence, where, according to the official statement, investigators found material evidence indicating that the suspect had been a member of the Yugoslav Army.
