In the days following the election of the new Pope, a grand mass of inauguration takes place in St. Peter’s Square, reports Rks News.
During this solemn rite, the Pope receives two of the most important symbols of his authority: the pallium (a woolen stole) and the Fisherman’s Ring.
Traditional coronations no longer take place, as Popes have not worn a crown since 1963. After the ceremony, the Pope officially takes possession of his cathedral, St. John Lateran Basilica, and meets with Vatican officials.
Following this, the Pope begins to shape the direction and priorities of the Church during his papacy.
“Whether facing global challenges, internal reforms, or spiritual leadership, the true path of the new Pope begins the moment the white smoke appears,” the report concludes.
