The Kosovo Business Association (KBA) has expressed deep concern over the decision by the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) to exclude 1,263 businesses from the regulated market and move them to a free market.

According to KBA, this has turned into an energy monopoly with unaffordable prices, reports IndeksOnline.

The Business Association says this decision will cause serious consequences and calls it a “thoughtless decision.”

“This decision was made without consulting the business community, without assessing the socio-economic impact, and contrary to the spirit of the law on universal service.
The situation is worsened further by the failure to form state institutions, which is blocking the ratification of international agreements and access to millions of euros in aid and investments, leaving local businesses and the economy exposed to a systematic and deliberate crisis,”

the KBA reaction states.

They demand an immediate suspension of the decision, at least for one year, to allow a fair and affordable transition for businesses.

KBA also calls for the swift formation of state institutions to unblock international agreements and restore institutional and financial stability, creating a competitive market based on banning silent monopolies.

“The Kosovo Business Association stands in defense of the business community’s interests and calls for immediate institutional reflection, transparency, responsibility, and cooperation.
If the private sector is harmed – the economy, budget, and citizens’ welfare are harmed,” the KBA declares.
