The Trump Administration is reportedly pressing Serbia and other Balkan countries to accept migrants deported from the United States, according to American media outlet Bloomberg. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to secure foreign governments willing to take in individuals expelled from the US, including those who entered during the previous administration.

Bloomberg, citing sources, reports that regional offices of the US Department of State have been tasked with promoting this idea. It remains unclear whether any agreements have been reached as a result of these discussions. Neither the White House nor the US Department of State has commented on the matter.

In May, the US Supreme Court permitted the Trump administration to revoke the temporary legal status for up to half a million individuals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. The administration has since been actively seeking potential destinations for migrants from these countries who may face deportation.

Previously, The Wall Street Journal reported in April that the US had explored agreements to send deportees to other Balkan countries, including Moldova and Kosovo, as well as other regions globally. While Serbia was not explicitly mentioned earlier as a potential destination for deportees, it has now drawn the attention of the Trump family for another reason.

The Bloomberg article notably mentions plans for a Trump Tower to be constructed in Belgrade. Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has reportedly received permission for the construction of a $500 million hotel on the former Ministry of Defense complex in Belgrade, potentially linking the diplomatic requests to business interests.
