Albin Kurti, Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, stated that the normalization of relations with Serbia cannot occur without Belgrade fulfilling its obligations. He was asked about U.S. President Donald Trump’s pledge to re-engage in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and advance the normalization process.
In response, Kurti emphasized that Serbia is violating the basic agreement and that the first step must be the extradition of Milan Radoičić, whom he described as the “chief criminal” responsible for the murder of Kosovo Police Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku.
“We have a basic agreement with Serbia, which is being violated by Serbia, and naturally, to normalize relations between our two countries, it is essential that they first hand over Milan Radoičić, the chief criminal who killed our police sergeant, the hero of Kosovo, Afrim Bunjaku. Afterwards, they must agree to sign the basic agreement with the implementation annex and, at the same time, withdraw the letter from December 2023, when former Prime Minister Brnabić stated that she does not respect Kosovo’s territorial integrity,” Kurti said.
He added that he believes in the possibility of normalization, but according to him, the pressure must be on Belgrade, while highly valuing the role of the United States of America.
“I believe that normalization is possible, pressure must be on Belgrade, and we always welcome the role of the U.S., who represent our main ally, irreplaceable partner, and special friend in three key areas: first, defense; second, diplomacy; and third, development,” Kurti concluded.
