Nenad Rašić, acting minister and Member of Parliament in the Assembly of Kosovo, has publicly opposed the decision by the Government of Kosovo and the Basic Court of Pristina. They had overturned a decision by the Municipality of Gračanica to display Serbian flags in public spaces for the Serbian holiday of “Vidovdan” – a holiday not recognized as an official holiday in the Republic of Kosovo.

“In accordance with the applicable Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and relevant legislation, we remind the public and all relevant institutions of the guaranteed rights of the Serbian community when it comes to the use of its national features – including the flag, coat of arms, language, script, and other symbols of identity,” Rašić wrote in a post.

“We invite all competent institutions to fully respect constitutional and legal guarantees to ensure the continued implementation of these rights in practice, without political pressure, discrimination, or administrative obstacles.

Respect for the rights of the Serbian community to use its features does not represent anyone’s identity, but a confirmation of Kosovo’s commitment as a democratic society based on human and minority rights.

In the interest of peace and coexistence, we expect a constructive approach from all actors and the continuous application of the law,” he stated.
