The leaders of the world’s seven major democratic economies, gathered at the G7 Summit in Canada, have issued a joint statement focusing primarily on the escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly between Israel and Iran, reports Rks News.

The G7 leaders reaffirmed their strong support for Israel’s security and expressed their firm opposition to the possibility of Iran developing nuclear weapons.

As part of their efforts to de-escalate tensions and support a resolution to the crisis, the G7 leaders called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a reduction of hostilities throughout the Middle East. The protection of civilians and the preservation of international security were emphasized as key priorities in the joint declaration.

During the summit, U.S. President Donald Trump left earlier than planned, heading back to Washington to focus more closely on the developments in the Middle East.

Additionally, Trump reiterated his stance that Russia’s exclusion from the G7 was a major mistake, arguing that the war in Ukraine might have been prevented if Russia had remained part of the group. Since Russia’s removal, the G7 is comprised of the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, and Japan.
