After the 33rd consecutive failure to constitute the Assembly of Kosovo, Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Lutfi Haziri strongly criticized the ongoing political impasse, calling it “damaging and disgraceful.”
“This that’s happening is a major delay that cannot be justified. It is harmful and disgraceful,” said Haziri.
While reflecting on recent comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump, Haziri emphasized Trump’s “unique role and specific weight” in the peace process and Kosovo’s state-building efforts.
“Trump’s message is a confirmation of his role in achieving peace between the two peoples. He has clearly sent a message to nations in conflict to urgently come closer to peace. The most important warning that should be taken seriously is his announcement of what he calls the ‘return of the Peace Process’,” Haziri stated.
He further argued that Trump’s statement reaffirms LDK’s stance that the Ohrid Agreement was “damaging and wrong.” He expressed hope for a coordination between the EU and the Trump administration on future developments related to Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
“Trump’s role is special. Above all, the specific weight of the American position and President Trump’s role in the peace process and finalization of Kosovo’s state-building will be critical. We must prepare for this,” Haziri concluded.
