U.S. President Donald Trump is currently holding a meeting with his National Security Council in the Situation Room, amidst rising tensions in the Middle East.
According to media reports, the President is considering whether the United States should become further involved in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
Earlier, Israel had requested that the United States maintain “a purely defensive posture” in its conflict with Iran, as stated by Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., Yechiel Leiter, to CNN.
Meanwhile, more than 30 American refueling tankers have been dispatched to the region over the past few days. This move is in preparation for the possibility that Trump might order the U.S. Air Force to assist in refueling Israeli fighter jets as they conduct strikes over Iran.
News agency Axios reported in its latest posts that Trump is contemplating joining Israel’s war to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities, particularly the Fordow plant. Israeli media also suggests that Israel is hoping the U.S. will soon join the confrontation with Iran.
