Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday that Moscow supports the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, but admitted it is difficult to determine its durability.

“It’s too early to draw conclusions,” Lavrov stated, marking Russia’s first official reaction to the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement announced by President Donald Trump.

He added:

“Despite the declaration, we’ve seen reports of renewed hostilities between Israel and Iran. So, we should refrain from drawing conclusions based on partial information.”

Lavrov’s statement reflects a cautious stance amid conflicting reports on whether the ceasefire is being respected by both parties.

Russia, which signed a strategic partnership agreement with Iran earlier this year, has condemned the strikes by Israel and the United States on Iranian nuclear and military facilities, calling them illegal and unprovoked.

Meanwhile, Iran has retaliated by targeting Israeli cities and recently attacking a U.S. military base in Qatar, escalating tensions in the region.
