Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has shared details from his meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump, held on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague.
Zelensky described the meeting as positive, focusing heavily on security, defense, and recent developments in the Middle East.
“We discussed the defense of our people with the President — first and foremost, the acquisition of U.S. air defense systems to protect our cities, our people, churches, and infrastructure,” Zelensky stated.
In addition to discussions about the battlefield situation, the two leaders also talked about the progress of negotiations between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Istanbul, as well as the humanitarian issue of prisoner exchanges and the return of fallen soldiers’ remains. Zelensky noted that Russia has begun returning the bodies of its own soldiers who were killed on Ukrainian territory.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized that he presented concrete battlefield updates to Trump:
“We talked about the situation on the battlefield. Putin is definitely not winning. I presented the President with facts about what’s really happening on the ground,” Zelensky said.
He also highlighted the importance of recent U.S. actions against Iran, which, according to him, have not only weakened Iran’s nuclear ambitions but also slowed down the production of Iranian drones — drones that have been used by Russian forces in Ukraine.
