Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov announced Thursday that during the sixth phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, both leaders reaffirmed the desire for a “negotiated solution” to the war in Ukraine, according to Reuters.

However, Putin made it clear that Russia remains committed to achieving its strategic goals in Ukraine, specifically by “eliminating the root causes of the conflict.” He emphasized that Moscow will not retreat from its plan.

Russia’s position remains unchanged, insisting that any peace talks must be held directly between Moscow and Kyiv, excluding broader international mediation.

The two leaders did not discuss the recent reports about the halt of some U.S. weapons deliveries to Ukraine.

Despite their differences, Putin and Trump agreed to continue discussions in the near future.
