To ensure greater safety on the roads connecting Kosovo and Albania, the police forces of both nations have announced heightened controls, the deployment of static radars, and strict penalties for all traffic violators.
Kosovo Police Warn of Enhanced Surveillance
Ismail Fejzullahu, Commander of the Highway Police in Kosovo, warned the public to be cautious, stating there will be increased controls and the use of static radars on the main routes between Kosovo and Albania. He emphasized that all traffic rule violations will be recorded directly into an advanced system and punished by law.
“Citizens of Kosovo are just beginning to understand that static radars exist, and I take this opportunity to appeal for them to be careful; there will be static radars that can record them, and their violations will be registered directly into your system, which, as I mentioned, is more advanced in recording various violators,” Fejzullahu stated.
Albanian Police Detail On-the-Spot Fines for Foreigners
Artur Selimaj, Head of Road Safety at the General Directorate of the Albanian State Police, also urged adherence to road signs. He clarified that Albania’s Road Code allows for on-the-spot payment of fines for foreign citizens. If the law mandates the revocation of a license or other legal document, and to avoid administrative hindrance, the road code stipulates double the fine payment. However, if the fine is paid on the spot and within specified deadlines, all citizens, including those from Kosovo, are eligible for a 50% reduction on the fine.
Authorities from both countries are working closely to guarantee order and safety along the key road arteries connecting Kosovo to the Albanian coastline.
