Former U.S. President Donald Trump has provided an updated and grim death toll from the devastating floods in Texas, stating that 135 people have died, around 15 more than previously reported.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Trump said during a meeting with local officials in Texas.

He added that “many children are missing”, and search and rescue teams are still actively working to locate them.

“Dozens and dozens of children were taken from us… It’s horrifying,” he continued.

Trump compared the floods to a “colossal wave in the Pacific”, saying it was so powerful that “even the world’s best surfers would be afraid to ride it.”

The tragedy has sparked widespread reactions as authorities continue search and rescue operations in the hardest-hit areas.
