Elected members of the Kosovo Assembly are set to convene today for the 50th attempt to constitute the ninth legislature, which emerged from the February 9 elections. The session is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM, with the political deadlock still revolving around the critical issue of electing the Speaker of the Assembly.

Persistent Failure to Constitute

The latest attempt, held on Saturday, failed just like the previous 49. The session’s presiding member, Avni Dehari, requested that parties nominate members for the secret ballot commission, but this was entirely ignored. Only 50 out of 90 present MPs participated in the vote, with no votes against or abstentions recorded; the remaining MPs simply refused to engage in the process.

Four months after the elections, the Assembly remains paralyzed and unable to function normally due to the lack of a political agreement on the position of Speaker.
