The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (IKSHPK) has released a public advisory with guidelines to protect citizens from the ongoing heatwave, which poses significant health risks—especially to vulnerable groups, Rks News reports.
According to IKSHPK, prolonged periods of high daytime and nighttime temperatures can place stress on the body, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses and even fatalities.
🔆 IKSHPK’s Key Recommendations for Protection:
- Stay out of the heat:
Avoid going outdoors and engaging in heavy activities during the hottest parts of the day. Stay in the shade and spend 2–3 hours in a cool indoor environment. - Keep your body cool and hydrated:
Wear light cotton clothing, take cool showers, dampen your skin, and drink water regularly—one glass every hour (2–3 liters per day). - Keep your home cool:
Ventilate rooms during cooler nighttime hours and keep windows closed during the day. Use curtains to block direct sunlight.
🧓👶 Special Care for Vulnerable Groups:
- Elderly over 65:
Check in regularly, especially with those living alone or with chronic illnesses or disabilities. - Children:
Never leave children unattended in parked vehicles and avoid sun exposure during peak hours (10:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
In case of emergency, contact the nearest doctor or call 194, the statement concludes.
