The leader of the Social Democratic NISMA party, Fatmir Limaj, has rejected any discussion regarding ministerial positions, as his sole demand was focused exclusively on leading the Kosovo Assembly.
This was stated by the party’s secretary, Bilall Sherifi.
Sherifi explained that the only priority for Limaj and his party was the Speaker of Parliament post, not the division of executive power.
He emphasized that the mandate for the Speaker belongs to the majority coalition but also noted that the largest party cannot elect the Speaker without sufficient numbers.
“The mandate for the Speaker of Parliament belongs to the majority. The largest party proposes the candidate, but without a majority, it cannot elect one, as was demonstrated,” Sherifi told TV Dukagjini.
The former member of Kosovo’s Assembly revealed that although there had been general discussions with the Vetëvendosje Movement regarding co-governance, Limaj did not agree to negotiate over any specific ministerial posts.
“Mr. Limaj told us that we had a good offer in terms of general discussions, but there was never any concrete talk about ministries. He did not accept discussing ministerial posts at all. We were determined to partner in the Assembly,” Sherifi said.
According to Sherifi, Limaj is among the most deserving deputies to lead the Assembly, but this is only possible if he is part of the majority coalition.
“Fatmir Limaj deserves to be Speaker of the Assembly, but this necessarily requires being part of the majority. Without a majority, you cannot be elected as Prime Minister or Speaker,” Sherifi declared.
