Brussels, August 3, 2025 — The European Union will suspend two sets of retaliatory tariffs against the United States for a period of six months, following an agreement reached with U.S. President Donald Trump, a European Commission spokesperson announced on Monday.

The EU-U.S. deal, however, leaves many questions unresolved — particularly regarding duties on alcoholic beverages. President Trump’s recent executive order, issued last week, imposes a 15% tariff on the majority of EU goods and does not include exemptions for automobiles and auto parts, among others.

EU officials have indicated that additional executive orders from the U.S. side are expected in the near future.

According to the Commission spokesperson, the EU is continuing to work closely with the U.S. to finalize a Joint Declaration, in line with the understanding reached on July 27.
