Basel, August 6, 2025 — Xherdan Shaqiri was the star of the night as FC Basel defeated Young Boys 4–1 in a dominant performance during Wednesday’s Swiss Super League derby.
In this fourth-round clash of the season, the Basel captain delivered a standout performance, scoring twice—his first goals of the current campaign. The first came in the 39th minute, while the second was converted from the penalty spot in the 60th minute.
Shaqiri, who played the full 90 minutes, had also registered an assist in Basel’s previous 2–1 win over Grasshopper, showcasing his strong form early in the season.
Meanwhile, Albian Ajeti started the match and played until the 67th minute, having picked up a yellow card in the first half.
With this result, Basel now sits on six points from three matches, boosting momentum in their Super League campaign.
