According to the German Press Agency, Eike Immel, former goalkeeper for Borussia Dortmund and the German national team, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of fraud in 107 cases.
The district court in Marburg sentenced the 64-year-old to two years and two months in prison. The news was confirmed by his lawyer, Turgay Schmidt, who stated that the decision is not yet final. The court was initially unavailable for comment.
In the vast majority of cases, Immel was accused of borrowing money from acquaintances and failing to repay it. The total amount of the fraud is estimated at around €34,000.
His lawyer announced plans to appeal the decision.
“We will file an appeal against the verdict. We will wait for the written reasoning of the judgment, review it thoroughly, and then prepare the appeal accordingly,” Schmidt said.
Immel’s legal team has one week to submit the appeal.
