Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Alaska on Friday, ahead of the expected meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Speaking briefly to reporters outside a hotel in Anchorage, Lavrov appeared wearing a sweater with the inscription “CCCP,” representing the former Soviet Union—an image that drew international media attention.
Lavrov stated that Moscow has a clear and well-understood position, which it intends to present at the summit with the U.S.:
“We never make plans in advance. We know we have arguments, a clear and understandable stance. We will present it,” he said.
He also referred to the recent visit of U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow, describing it as a positive development in bilateral communication.
“Much has already been done during the visits of the U.S. president’s special envoy, Witkoff… I hope that tomorrow we will continue this useful conversation,” Lavrov added.
The upcoming Putin–Trump meeting, expected in the coming days, is viewed as a crucial moment for international relations, particularly amid ongoing tensions between East and West.
