Two people were injured in a shooting near a mosque in the Swedish city of Örebro, according to a police statement. Authorities are investigating the incident as a case of attempted murder.
Both victims were taken to the hospital, but a police spokesperson declined to comment on the severity of their injuries. Public broadcaster SVT, citing an unidentified eyewitness, reported that one of the victims was shot shortly after leaving the mosque following Friday prayers.
The suspect is still at large, and it remains unclear whether the mosque or specific individuals were targeted. A large number of emergency services personnel responded to the scene, and the public has been asked to stay away from the area.
The attack occurred months after a separate, unrelated shooting in Örebro in February that left ten students and teachers dead, marking the country’s deadliest gun attack in its history.
