The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has called on political parties in the country to reach an agreement and establish institutions.
In an interview with Polish television network TVP World, she stated that political parties must set aside their differences and prioritize the country’s interests.
“I take this opportunity to once again urge all political parties to put the country’s interest first and set aside their differences. They should try to form a parliamentary majority coalition that moves Kosovo forward,” President Osmani said.
Osmani noted that due to the ongoing political deadlock, Kosovo is missing out on European Union projects and opportunities with the new U.S. administration, for which significant efforts have already been made.
“Most agreements need to go to the Assembly for ratification and to the Government for implementation. The people of Kosovo deserve an efficient government with full powers,” she added.
She emphasized that Kosovo cannot afford to remain without institutions for an extended period.
“Many may say that Belgium has gone two years without a government, Austria six months. I understand that, but we do not have the luxury of waiting that long. We truly need to move forward with reforms and membership in organizations,” Osmani stated.
She also added that she does not believe there is external influence on Kosovo’s major political parties in how they respond.
“It is their personal trust, whom they want to work with. It is very local,” Osmani concluded.
