Acting President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is expected to attend and deliver a speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will be held from September 22–30 in New York.
The news was reported to AFP by a Syrian Foreign Ministry official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
He stated: “Sharaa will participate in the UN General Assembly in New York, where he will deliver a speech.”
According to the official, Sharaa will become the first Syrian president to address the Assembly since 1967—a historic presence reflecting Syria’s effort to reestablish itself on the international stage, reports The Times of Israel.
