The Assembly of Kosovo continues its efforts today to fully constitute the ninth legislature, but a political deadlock remains over the post of Deputy Speaker.

Earlier this week, Dimal Basha was elected as Speaker of Parliament, while Albulena Haxhiu, Vlora Çitaku, and Kujtim Shala secured votes for Deputy Speakers. However, the Assembly has yet to be fully functionalized due to unresolved representation for the Serb community.

Deadlock Over Serb Community Representative

Candidates from the Serb minority community failed to secure the necessary votes for the Deputy Speaker position.

Nenad Rašić, a Serb minority MP, has stated that he expects to secure more than 61 votes in order to represent the Serb community in the leadership of the Assembly.

Next Steps

The plenary session is scheduled to resume today at 11:00 AM, with expectations that the ongoing parliamentary stalemate could be resolved. However, uncertainty remains over whether the Assembly will succeed in finalizing its leadership structure.

The outcome of today’s session will determine whether Kosovo’s ninth legislature can move past this political impasse or whether the saga of the Assembly’s full constitution will continue.
