Rudy Giuliani, the former legendary Mayor of New York and a staunch supporter of Kosovo’s liberation, has been injured in a car accident in New Hampshire, USA, according to his security detail.
His vehicle was struck at high speed from behind while traveling on the highway, a statement posted on social media confirmed.
According to his security guard Michael Ragusa, Giuliani suffered a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple cuts and bruises, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg.
Giuliani rose to international prominence as “America’s Mayor” for his leadership of New York City during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. He later became an advisor and personal attorney to Donald Trump.
Longstanding Support for Kosovo
Giuliani has been an outspoken supporter of Kosovo’s independence. Most recently, he angered Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić during a visit to Sarajevo, where he reminded him that “Kosovo is an independent state” and called Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik a criminal.
He remains unwelcome in Serbia due to his support for the 1999 NATO bombing campaign against Belgrade. During the Kosovo war, Giuliani urged then-U.S. President Bill Clinton to consider deploying ground troops to prevent genocide.
He repeatedly stated that Serb forces committed genocide in Kosovo, comparing it to the Holocaust:
“The Holocaust is not an isolated incident. Prejudices, hatred, and twisted emotions that go beyond humanity and law are happening now in Europe. That is why America must play its role in stopping genocide in Kosovo. President Clinton must have a backup plan and send ground troops if necessary,” Giuliani told the New York Post on April 12, 1999.
