The Council of Albanian Ambassadors (KASH) has expressed concern over the United States’ decision to suspend the Strategic Dialogue with Kosovo for an indefinite period, describing this move as dangerous for bilateral relations and for stability in the Western Balkans. “In a media statement, KASH called on Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti – as the winner of the February 9 elections – and other political forces to overcome divisions and cooperate in defending national interests, as well as in restoring relations with the US in key areas of defense, security, and the economy.

“Kosovo is among the most pro-American countries in the world, with a clear commitment to peace, democracy, and Euro-Atlantic values. The suspension of dialogue with Prishtina, while dialogue with Belgrade advances, sends the wrong message and risks destabilizing the region, giving space to Serbia’s interference through the Serb List,” the statement said.

The Council considers it unfair that a country which has been one of the US’s most reliable partners is penalized in this way, while Serbia – which is drawing ever closer to China, Russia, and Iran – benefits from a softer treatment.

“Kosovo needs support in building its institutions, not pressure that could paralyze their functioning,” KASH further stressed.

The statement emphasizes that Kosovo’s authorities must make efforts to exit as soon as possible from the punitive measures imposed by the European Union and now by the US, through a more constructive approach and by recognizing the crucial role of Western support for the country’s development and security.

“Belgrade’s interference in Kosovo, through Serbian political parties, must be addressed in close coordination with the US and EU, and always within the constitutional framework of the Republic of Kosovo,” KASH added.

In conclusion, the Council of Albanian Ambassadors called on Kosovo’s entire political spectrum to unify their positions regarding dialogue with Serbia, aiming for a final agreement that would secure mutual recognition between the two states.
