U.S. President Donald Trump said he plans to meet Chinese Premier Xi Jinping in South Korea next month, following a phone call during which the Chinese leader also approved a deal to take control of TikTok operations in the United States.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that the phone call was “productive” and the approval was “appreciated,” adding that he plans to travel to China next year after meeting Xi.

TikTok, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, had previously been notified to sell its U.S. operations or face closure. However, Trump has delayed implementing the ban four times since the initial announcement in January, and earlier this week extended the deadline again until December.

In his post, Trump said both leaders “have made progress” on trade issues and will meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea, expected to begin in late October.

“This will be followed by a visit to China and a subsequent visit by Xi to the U.S.,” he added.

The President did not provide further details on the TikTok deal, which he mentioned earlier this week would be confirmed by the call. Reports indicate the agreement will involve a group of U.S. firms—said to include Oracle—allowing TikTok to continue operating in the U.S. using algorithm technology licensed from ByteDance.
