Local elections in Kosovo will be held on October 12, but in municipalities where candidates fail to secure more than 50% of the votes, a runoff will take place.
Valmir Elezi, spokesperson for the Central Election Commission (CEC), confirmed for Sinjali that the second round will be held on November 9.
“Each mayor is directly elected by the registered voters of their municipality. On the ballot, the voter must choose only one candidate for mayor. A candidate is elected mayor if they win 50% plus one of the total valid votes cast in that municipality. If this is not achieved, then after four weeks, a second round is organized between the two candidates with the highest number of valid votes. The candidate who wins the majority of votes in the second round is elected mayor,” Elezi explained.
