Iran on Saturday executed six prisoners sentenced to death, accused of carrying out attacks on behalf of Israel, marking what is believed to be the highest wave of executions in decades.

The executions followed the 12-day Iran-Israel war in June, with Iranian authorities claiming that the prisoners had killed police officers and orchestrated bombings in the Khuzestan province.

Human rights activists, however, have warned that Iran frequently relies on forced confessions and closed-door trials to justify death sentences, raising serious concerns about due process.

State television broadcast footage showing one of the men speaking about the attacks, revealing details that had not been made public before.
