Munich Airport, Germany’s second busiest airport, resumed operations today after being closed last night due to two unidentified drones flying over the airfield, marking the second closure in less than 24 hours.

The gradual reopening began at 7 a.m., two hours later than the usual first flights of the day.

The German Federal Police reported that the drones were spotted shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday near the north and south runways.

The drones disappeared before authorities could identify them, and the airport warned that flight delays are expected throughout the day.

At least 6,500 passengers were affected by last night’s closure. The airport was also closed during the night between Thursday and Friday, impacting nearly 3,000 passengers.

German authorities have not confirmed the origin of the drones. Drone sightings over airports and other critical infrastructure have also been reported in several other European Union countries.
