During the Brdo-Brijuni Summit in Durrës, President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani criticized the fact that despite the significant reforms undertaken by Kosovo, the country remains under European Union sanctions.

Speaking to the media, Osmani stated:

“The deep reforms that our institutions have undertaken over the past few years — including 100 percent alignment with the EU’s foreign and security policy — clearly demonstrate our commitment.”

However, she expressed frustration that Kosovo is still under EU sanctions:

“Unfortunately, Kosovo remains under the European Union’s sanctions, for which none of the member states are willing to provide an explanation, even though all the required conditions have been met.”

Osmani also reminded that Kosovo submitted its application for EU membership back in 2022, but some EU member states are blocking the European Commission from proceeding with Kosovo’s candidate status.

“This leads us to the conclusion that the process is not merit-based, but rather driven by political considerations and individual interests that certain member states take into account when making such decisions,” she added.

Furthermore, Osmani said that Kosovo has sought the support of Croatia and Slovenia to strengthen its position within the European Union.
