It had long been thought and assumed, but never clearly proven, whether modern humans lived in Kosovo 40,000 or 50,000 years ago. That question has now been answered.

According to the latest archaeological discoveries made in the Drenas region by the University of Tübingen in Germany and the Archaeological Institute of Kosovo, this historical fact has now been confirmed.

“Yes, we are completely satisfied. We found exactly what we were looking for. I told you we were searching for the earliest humans who lived in Kosovo perhaps around 50,000 years ago — and we found them,” said Prof. Dr. Harald Floss, archaeologist from the University of Tübingen, Germany.

As for which village or location in Drenas these historical findings were made, Floss did not give many details, but said:

“I cannot go into details, but I can say that it is in the Drenas region, where we excavated an open site — not a cave — and there we found artifacts that I can say are around 50,000–60,000 years old. That is exactly what we were looking for. This is very important news. Not bad at all.”

All these discoveries, according to Luan Gashi, archaeologist at the Archaeological Institute of Kosovo, will be published very soon and have been financed by the Ministry of Culture.

“We have discovered the Paleolithic period — for the first time in Kosovo. Not in the Radac cave, but somewhere completely different,” said Luan Gashi in the show “KREJT KAPAK” with Milot.
